Can’t thank my friend Peggy enough! An SOS note last night from her telling me about a challenge that she’s having with her pre-teen daughter, Olivia who’s starting to think that she’s fat. You could say it was a real wake up call that reminded me of how important it is for us as mothers and mentors, to talk to our girls and give them a positive self image before the media and their peers stomp over their delicate body image and self esteem.
In the process of writing my book, I became familiar with Jessica Weiner’s work as Dove’s Global Ambassador for the Dove Self Esteem Fund. Through recognizing her work, Jess has become my ultimate Juicy Woman role model. As a plus size woman putting herself out so boldly and fearlessly in the media, to my way of thinking, Jess is a fabulous and very real and relatable and lovable image of a perfect role model for young girls struggling with body image issues.
As a gal in recovery from an eating disorder, Jessica generously shares her experience and insights in both her best selling books: A Very Hungry Girl: How I Filled Up On Life and How You Can Too! and Do I Look Fat In This? She’s certainly brilliantly qualified to talk to young girls about loving and respecting their bodies. As The Juicy Woman, I want to humbly follow in her footsteps and continue to make a difference on a grander scale.
The girl scout leader in me yearns to get back in front of speaking to a large group of girls. What a kick! I just registered online to teach a Dove workshop in my area. I’m contacting my local Girl Scout council today and telling them, Andrea’s back!
If you’re a mom or mentor wanting to make a difference in girls’ lives, then join me in the fight against body bashing and become a part of the solution teaching girls to love the skin they’re in. Register online to run a Dove seminar or workshop in your area. Here’s the registration info:
Hope to see you at one of the workshops!
Inspired and feeling drawn to follow in the footsteps of a woman whose work inspired me, I’ve decided to join in the fight against body bashing and register online to lead a Dove Self Esteem workshop for girls. Wow! The old girl scout leader in me can’t wait to get back in the game! Are you ready to take the leap and make a difference in the lives of girls?
