Around this time of year many people feel tremendous pressure around keeping their New Years’ Resolutions. But that can be so daunting. As a Professional Empowerment Coach, I’ve learned that taking a step by step approach is the best way to achieve any goal.
Sometimes you’ll be filled with energy and you can take a ton of steps, but others, you can barely move. I’ve come to recognize when it’s important to lower your bar and make it really easy to accomplish what you want.
Recently I had family stay over for the holidays and emotionally, it took a lot out of me. I now realize it was a big mistake to let my step grandson, Aiden sleep in my office.
I get really overwhelmed when I see things out of order and in chaos and with so many people there was a lot of visual confusion.
I gotta say. I’m wiped out just thinking of all the things that I have to do to catch up and get back my momentum.
So today my only goal is to do something that will immediately make me feel better and help me to reclaim the spaces in my home. So my only goal is to sweep my kitchen floor. I know that once that’s done, I’ll feel a wave of accomplishment and an instant sense of gratification.
How about you? What situation do you have now in your life that seems overwhelming? What small step can you take to begin to move out of a pattern of stagnation? How much better will you feel when you are out of this situation? You can do it. Just take that first step and don’t forget to surround yourself with friends who love and support you.
