How do you relax and unwind? One of the things I like to do when I find myself all tied up in knots is to take a break, and step away from whatever I’m doing and treat myself to something special.

Back in the day when I used to a dieter, that used to translate to some sort of food that would inevitably be filled with fat and calories. Now don’t get me wrong. I still love many of those foods, but I don’t tend to reward myself or treat myself with food anymore.

How do you relax and unwind? One of the things I like to do when I find myself all tied up in knots is to take a break, and step away from whatever I’m doing and treat myself to something special.

Back in the day when I used to be a dieter, that used to translate to binging on some sort of food that would inevitably be filled with fat and calories. Now don’t get me wrong. I still love many of those foods, but I don’t tend to reward myself or treat myself with food anymore.

So rather than tearing into a package of ring dings or breaking out the oreos, here are some of my favorite wind me down things to do:

A trip to the library – always on the prowl to learn more
Flipping through a magazine – yesterday I enjoyed reading the latest issue of “O”
Cooking – especially when nobody’s expecting to eat
Watching tv – Love so many of the reality shows from Ruby to Keeping up with the Kardashians… I’m hooked!
A new shade of lipstick – love those reds and pinks
A manicure or pedicure – don’t forget the foot massage
An outing with a friend – had a blast a couple weeks ago at the museum with my friend, Lucy

But one of the most enjoyable things that I do for myself is to surround myself with lovely scents. As the foodie I am, you can probably imagine that I love anything that smells like food.

Some of my favorite scents

My source for fabulous scents is Bath and Body Works. I love their scented hand soaps. Among my favorites are the kitchen lemon soap, warm vanilla sugar, peach bellini, cinnamon heaven, black raspberry vanilla and my very favorite summer scent is mango mandarin.

Yup. I love the scent of food. Give me a fruity over a flowery any day.

Right now as I write this post the scent of chocolate and peppermint fills my office thanks to the wallflowers plug in home frangrace collection.

It’s not doing anything to make me hungry, just very happy filling my thoughts with wonderful memories of all the goodies my Nana used to bake. It’s like getting a good hug.

But my most favorite goodie from BBW is the anti bacterial soaps that you can carry ‘ round in your pocket. If they would sell the honey pretzel by the gallon, I’d buy it in a hot minute. Nothing smells more wonderful than that. Oh by the way, if you ever meet me and I smell like a pretzel, that would be the reason why.
