Now that the holidays are winding down and coming to a close, the question begs to be answered; what will you do next?

Back in the day when I was a die hard dieter, I could count on the comfort and safety of always knowing that I could run back to Weight Watchers and expect them to put me back in control with yet another version of the same old diet and deprivation game.

Now I know that the answer is not going to be found outside of myself. It is within me, and it is within you. For me, I’ve learned that the answer is not found in a diet, or a new piece of exercise equipment promising to reshape and slenderize my thighs, or a powdery tasting drink. It’s not in a pill, powder, gadget or gizmo. I now realize that I am perfectly fine just the way I am. There are things that I want in life, but I’m no longer willing to put off getting them because I have fat thighs. For the majority of my life I put my life on hold because I hated my body. Now as a professional coach, I realize that I hated my body because I was putting my life on hold. It wasn’t the other way around. And now that I’m no longer putting off ‘ til tomorrow what I can do today, my thighs are shrinking no matter what I eat. It’s not what you’re eating. It’s what’s eating you! Deal with the roots of your stress and you’ll never have to worry about the food you put in your mouth.

I don’t know about you, but I completely and thoroughly enjoyed my holidays. The food was 5 star fabulous. The conversations were fun and lively. My mother in law, Luz made pernil (roasted pork with plenty of crispy, crackly, fatty skin), with rice and beans, my friend, Lucy made a star studded pineapple ham and whipped up her famous sausage and raisin italian style stuffing. My step daughter, Janelle made a fresh cranberry-apple sauce, My husband, Angel marinated the turkey, spanish style and I went all out and did dessert. I bought fresh strawberries, black cherries and pomegranates, marshmallows, cashews, dried mango slices and other goodies, and coated them in dark and milk chocolate. The toughest and most tedious part was threading each of 5 pomegranate seeds on a toothpick in preparation to dip them in the chocolate. But it was so well worth it. Yummo!

The point is I definitely ate more than I normally would have, and this time I don’t regret it at all. Ok maybe a little, but I’m not going to waste any time crying over spilled milk.

As I wrote in my book, when you begin to eat and live like a naturally slender woman, during the times when you do find yourself eating more, you won’t beat up on yourself because your body will naturally balance itself out again by craving lighter foods over the next several days.

Back in the dieting days, I would have felt the need to do penance for overeating by cutting my food intake down to the bare bones. Now I don’t even think about it, because my body regulates that for me naturally.

How about you? After you overeat, what’s your plan? If you’ve overeaten during the holidays, what will you do next?

Will this year be the same as last? Will you feel compelled to get back on a diet and tighten your belt and do whatever it takes to get back down to size, or are you willing to try something different? Are you willing to learn how to trust your body?

Let me share a new path with you. If you haven’t already read it, then I invite you to read the 81 page excerpt of my new book, “Lovin’ the Skin You’re In: The Juicy Woman’s Guide to Making Peace with Food and Friends with Your Body.”
