Many women have been coming to my free Yahoo forum lately wondering why Intuitive Eating hasn’t worked for them. Just to be sure that we are all on the same page, intuitive eating is a permission based eating approach to food. It works by focusing on inclusion rather than exclusion.

In a typical diet environment, food is restricted. In Intuitive Eating, no food is restricted.
You can imagine that with this approach there can be some very serious pitfalls such as gaining weight. I’d like to address that by sharing my own experience with exploring Intuitive Eating for nearly 11 months.

Intuitive Eating in and of itself does not proclaim to address the stress that compels you to overeat and to eat when you are not hungry. It simply elevates your conscious awareness to a level of becoming more sensitive to how food feels and tastes to you.

One of the most important aspects of Intuitive Eating is the component of legalizing all foods. That means to strip food of its emotional tug on your life and to become able to view it as a source of fuel and energy for your body as opposed to comfort for your soul.

My findings as a coach and as an experimenter of this process, is that if you haven’t worked out your emotional issues and if you still have clouds hanging over your life, Intuitive Eating will not work for you. You will find yourself thinking and feeling that you are hungry and wanting to eat. Your body will push you to fill up on foods that will give you that high or lift that you need in order to feel better about your unmet needs.

In order to succeed with weight loss by using Intuitive Eating, you must be able to manage your haunts and hurts from the past and have new coping methods to handle your stresses. I recommend the use of energy coaching.
