A client of mine named Ashley, once shared a story in my fabulous  Juicy Woman Forum. She said that she was shocked when she passed her kitchen sink and found a plate with sandwich crumbs. She said no one else was in the house other than her that day. Yet she had no memory of eating the sandwich.

How many times have you sat at a meal, been completely engrossed in whatever you were thinking or doing besides the act of eating, and had no memory of what the food tasted like, whether you were enjoying it or how it felt in your body.

That’s a common challenge that we busy gals face consistently because we are always trying to multi-task and do more things in less time. Yet where this can be a benefit in some areas, here, it can do more harm than good, especially if you are an emotional eater. The way to short circuit that habit is to learn how to become an Intuitive Eater. This means that you learn how to eat real food in response to your body’s hunger.

If you don’t get an internal signal indicating that you are satisfied and that you don’t want anymore food, you will keep on hunting down food like a wolf, wondering why you can’t stop eating. As I say time and time again, it’s not your fault. You’ve been on autopilot and this has become a habit which is linked up with your basic survival instincts.

It may have served you at one time, but if like Ashley, you’re passing plates in the sink filled with crumbs and you don’t remember eating, then it’s not working for you anymore so it could be time to become more mindful and attentive to the food you eat. A big benefit of doing that, is that it will be easier for you to start to sort out the foods that you’ve been eating that are only of mediocre quality. After all, you deserve the very best.

That’s the way I taught Ashley how to think and feel about herself. Now she doesn’t pass by empty plates of crumbs in her sink anymore. She really enjoys every bite and eats less naturally. You too could enjoy the same success as Ashley by following her lead. Since she participated in my Losing Weight without Dieting Program February of 2007, she has lost 60 pounds, and gone from a size 16 to a size 2. As a business owner and a woman with more than her fair share of emotional baggage, Ashley is proof positive that a non diet approach balanced with stress relief techniques really works to neutralize the ingrained comfort eating response of hand to mouth.
